Research
I knew I wanted to pick Snoopy and Woodstock as my couple because they are characters that have been a huge part of me during my childhood and they have such a special playful dynamic throughout their adventures. I did extensive deep research learning their dynamic and history throughout the many adventures they have been through since the comics. Once I did that, I then made a detailed summary, finding the 10 best adjectives to describe each one individually and as a duo, thirty in total.
Process
After my research, I concentrated my long summary into a short one for the back cover. After finalizing my text, I then began the sketching process. I knew I wanted something playful to represent Snoopy and Woodstocks relationship and put an emphasis on their adventures. So I finally decided on paper airplanes. To make the cover relate more to the comics, I decided to make the drawing more simple and comic-like. After deciding on the right sketch, I developed in the idea more and refined my design even further. I knew I wanted to add the heart on Snoopy’s path to emphasize how caring he is and I knew I wanted their paths to wrap around the entire book cover (front and back) in order to create visual flow and lead the eye through. Finally, I worked through choosing the right font for the book. To continue the playful look, I kept it simple and found one that felt very light. Again, I wanted the title to match the adventurous tone of their dynamic.
Result
For the final product, I created mockups to show the cover, spine, and back.
